According to customs data, China’s graphite electrode exports in July 2024 totaled 18,300 tons, marking a month-on-month decrease of 26.25% and a year-on-year decrease of 30.24%. This figure represents not only the lowest monthly export volume this year but also the lowest in the past four years. The decline can primarily be attributed to two factors: a significant drop in overseas demand and adjustments in trade policies by some foreign countries. From January to July 2024, China’s total graphite electrode exports amounted to 170,300 tons, down 3.86% year-on-year.
In terms of export destinations, Russia, Taiwan, and South Africa were the top three markets for China’s graphite electrodes. Exports to Russia reached 1,200 tons, down 37.96% month-on-month; exports to Taiwan totaled 1,000 tons, down 2.35% month-on-month; and exports to South Africa amounted to 960 tons, up 36.49% month-on-month. Additionally, Vietnam showed a notable increase this month, with exports of graphite electrodes from China reaching 960 tons, up 42.21% month-on-month.
